Buying Guide
Before we look at the devices I wanted to put together a short guide for women when searching for a Fitbit.
- Design – this is important as a lot of the best selling devices are chunky with grey and black. When looking for devices look at the device and make sure it suits your style and wardrobe.
- Fitness Tracking – look at the features and your own fitness goals to ensure they align.
- Cycle Tracking – if tracking your period is important to you consider a model with female health tracking.
Fitbit Versa 2 – $200 (£200)
Release Date: August 2019
This is the latest Fitbit smartwatch and if money is no object then this is the Fitbit for you. If you are looking for a smartwatch and you are a fan of Fitbit then this could be the right Fitbit. The Versa 2 is packed with features that ladies will love. From Female Health, sleep tracking and guided meditation this watch has it all.
Fitbit Versa 2 – Health Features
With this watch you get a lot for your money in terms of features. The standard Fitbit features are all here from a Step counter and Activity tracker all day long, calories burned, floors climbed and sleep tracking.
The feature I really like is that it knows when your asleep and can issue a silent vibrating alarm as to not wake anyone else up (as long as your wearing it).
The sleep tracker also has more to offer including tracking stages Light, Deep and REM as well as giving you an overall sleep score.
Another great feature for the Versa 2 is the “female health tracking” this function records when your periods start and end to give you a prediction on when your next cycle will start including fertility window.
A nice addition is the “breath” app that can be used for guided breathing sessions helping you to relax. This is one of the best fitbit for ladies!
Fitbit Versa 2 – Exercise Features
One of the great features on many of the Fitbit models is to automatically recognise exercise. The SmartTrack Auto Excercise Recognition feature automatically knows when your exercising and what type of exercise you are doing. This includes Walking, Running, Aerobic Workout, Outdoor Bike and Sports.
Fitbit is dedicated to keeping you healthy. The watch will remind you to move 250 steps every hour. If you want to turn off reminders to move its simple to do.
The Fitbit Versa 2 has 15 exercise modes:
- Cycling
- Running
- Swimming
- Weights
- Interval Training
- Workout
- Golf
- Spinning
- Hiking
- Tennis
- StairClimber
- Pilates
- Circuit Training
- Bootcamp
- Yoga
- Elliptical
- Walking
- Martial Arts
- Kickboxing
The Versa 2 tracks your heartrate this is especially useful as it helps the device know how fit you are. This is known as your resting heart rate. It also helps to know when your working out enough and your heart rate is in the fat-burning zone. Fitbit uses a feature called “Cardio Fitness Score” it will take basic measurements to determine your basic score or monitor you over a 10 minute period whilst you exercise. It will then give you a score of Poor, Fair, Average, Good, Very Good, or Excellent. You can then monitor this over time to increase your fitness levels.
Onscreen workouts are available with the coach app. To track your pace and distance you need to pair your phone in order to make use of its GPS.
Fitbit Versa 2 – Smart Features
The Fitbit Versa 2 has a number of built-in smart features. This includes standard Call Notifications, Text, Calendar and Smartphone app alerts (needs to be paired with a phone). Amazon Alexa is also built-in with this device enabling you to issue voice commands.
The music experience isn’t bad, you can use the music app to play music and podcasts on the go. You can even play music without needing your phone. You can download music to the watch and leave your phone at home! This is ideal when you are exercising and don’t want to carry your phone.
If your card and bank are supported you can use Fitbit Pay. This uses NFC enabling you to wirelessly pay for things.
Fitbit Versa 2 – Design
The device is functional and stylish. What’s more, if you don’t like the default strap there are numerous compatible straps to suit all tastes. Chancing the strap is easy.
The always on display mode is optional, this shows basic stats all of the time but takes its toll on battery life. Clock faces are customisable and can easily be changed.
The device is water-resistant to 50m there is no official IP water rating.
Battery life is excellent at up to 6 days!
Fitbit Versa 2 vs Fitbit Versa
You might be tempted by the 1st generation fitbit Versa due to better pricing if you are there are key differences between the two models.
The Fitbit Versa 2 has:
- Better battery life
- Better screen
- Amazon Alexa Built-in
- Faster Processor
Given the small price difference, I would always recommend the Versa 2.
